Reverse Osmosis Removal of Salts from Water Desalination - removal of salts by reverse osmosis process using state of the art membrane technology. Reverse osmosis is the reverse of the natural osmotic process that occurs in nature. Osmosis is the natural passage of liquid through a semi-permeable membrane, during which the liquid flows from a state of low concentration of solids or impurities to a state of relatively high concentration. To treat water by the osmotic process, osmosis must be reversed to make the water flow from a state of high concentration of solids to a low concentration. This is done by applying pressure to the high concentration side of the membrane. The result is a high quality water on the product (low pressure) side of the membrane. The reverse osmosis process has proved to be a highly efficient, low cost method of obtaining high quality water. The correct choice of pretreatment is very important as it influences the quality of the permeate, and above all, the life-span of the reverse osmosis membrane. Antiscalants and Anti-Foulants Abtech Antiscalants are liquid polymer blends designed to inhibit mineral scale formation in reverse osmosis (RO) water purification systems. They are especially effective against calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate, and strontium sulfate scales. Recommended as replacement for sulphuric acid and sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) in desalination and in brackish water purification. Unlike sulphuric acid, Abtech Antiscalants are non-corrosive, safe, and required in only threshold amounts (1-10ppm).
